In preparation for a design I've had "in limbo" for far too long, I've purchased a book titled BGA Breakouts & Routing by Charles Pfeil. It is available (pre-production) here, and the author's web page is here .

 

Charles Pfeil is an Engineering Director at Mentor Graphics . Though I take some issue with the company itself, I have great respect for the engineering talent it houses and certainly for Charles, as it seems to be quite difficult to find a good resource for fine-pitch/high-density BGA routing techniques that have been tested and proven. The difficulty, of course, being that most techniques to deal with these types of board layouts are prohibitively expensive to hobbyists, and even make some small companies cringe. Being both a professional engineer and a hobbyist, I can't wait to crack open this book and see what Mr. Pfeil has to say on the subject! It just got plopped on my desk here at work, so it's likely in the next few days I will edit this post and add in a review after the jump.
